The Poetryzine Magazine presents the Poetry Translation and Research Center IPTRC International Translation Award given to the Turkish poet and translator Murat Yurdakul
Poet, writer and translator Mr. Murat Yurdakul was awarded the International Translator of the Year Award by the International Executive Board of the Poetry Translation and Research Center IPTRC in the People's Republic of China.
The award was nominated by a jury of renowned poets, translators and academics from 18 countries, including Italy, the United States, Poland, Russia, the United Arab Emirates, Romania, Sweden, India, France, Spain, China, Albania. Greece, Germany, Argentina, Israel, Japan, Denmark etc. Three rounds of voting took two months. Finally, 14 poets and translators from 13 countries won.
Murat Yurdakul was selected as the best translator in the British-based Journal of Modern Poetry Translation published in the United Kingdom (2018).
Murat Yurdakul, who can speak Italian, Spanish, English and Chinese at an advanced level and is a translator, stated that he is honored to be the first translator from Turkey to be deemed worthy of this meaningful award in the People's Republic of China. Expressing that he is honored to contribute to the cultural bond between the two countries in translation in the context of intercultural literature, he said that he is happy to be deemed worthy of this meaningful award.
Murat Yurdakul shared her thoughts on the importance of translation and intercultural literature.
“A translator who is completely devoted to his profession gets hit with an author he reads in a foreign language and his text once, and then it turns into a passion for that translator to describe that author himself - no matter how many times he has been translated by others before.
This passion does not stem from the belief that his own translation will never be superior to the previous ones. The important thing is that the translator develops a passion for conveying his own interpretation and conversation.
When it comes to the act of translation, which is a kind of interpretive act, understanding alone is not enough. In addition to Understanding, it is also necessary to share in a certain way within the author's own literary reality. The conditions of reading and the conditions of narration are quite different from each other, and translation is a very special type of narration; requires the existence of its own conditions.”
