Poetryzine Magazine presents the selected poems by the American poetess Maxwanette A Poetess
It Goes On It was eerily quiet. The thumping of my heart, ached the sides of my Soul. Movements were forgotten, as the flow of life, came to a stagnating crawl. The shallowness of breath, beckoned to death, to take hold. For the will to live was lost in tears. Flickering flashbacks of laughter & joy, floated around remnants of gifts. Reminders of the ghostlike connection. Gone was the woe & sorrow, of love lost. Embracing the fullness & warmth of life... It goes on.
Remember
So...
What does one write about,
when so much is going on?
How do you stay joyful, when the world is too fearful, to live?
How do you blog,
when things are so odd?
Write what you know, just let it flow,
"For words are meant to be spoken."
Humanity feels bare,
not even hugs are shared --- there's no go between.
We laugh from a distance, share vibes of resistance, living through this quarantine.
Will it go to May or September , October to December?
All I can say, amongst meditation as I pray,
"We're All In This Thing Called Life, TOGETHER...Remember?"
Have You? Have you ever felt so good? That you wish everyone could, Forever embrace this wonderful feeling? Have you ever become “Awoke”? That even the words that you spoke, Empowered & Energized your entire being? Have the cards that life dealt, Become daggers upon a fleshy pelt, Leaving one to wonder its purpose and meaning? When we see wrong become right, & right becomes wrong, Do we give up or keep fighting? When Human beings are being slaughtered, Yes, OUR sons & daughters, judged by the skins that they’re in, Does no one care, what in the world is happening? Have you ever had a poem start out alright? Then you Soul became tight, Based on the lack of LOVE in your surroundings? … Have you tried to meditate and relax? As your mind tries to lapse, Into a place of calmness & overstanding? Have you refocused, re-centered, breathed in and out? No noise, no shouts, Riding the rhythm, you were born in… Have You? ©️Maxwanette A Poetess, All Rights Reserved. *Sometimes you could be having a beautiful day, moment, experience, what have you. Then BLAM!!! You get knocked off your positive flow. Why? Because life happens & we’re not in this world alone. It’s important to remember to rebuild, recharge, refresh, and refocus yourself. We tend to forget that at times. We've all been through some things in this life & like our cars, Human Beings need tune-ups too.
* Maxine A. Moncrieffe aka Maxwanette A Poetess was born to Jamaican parents, in Brooklyn, NY – As . One of Maxwanette's favorite sayings is “Poetry Is In My DNA,” with her Mother being her 1st introduction to Poetry. Maxwanette went on to further expose herself to Louise Bennett, Claude McKay, Maya Angelou, Langston Hughes, James Baldwin, Edgar Allan Poe, Sylvia Plath, Emily Dickinson, Robert Frost, Shakespeare, Rudyard Kipling, Oscar Wilde, Alice Walker, Gwendolyn Brooks, Nikki Giovanni, and so many more. Maxwanette wrote her first poem, at the age of 5; a Haiku, and she wrote one for her Mother everyday for a month. Thus began her journey with Poetry in hand. It was in the early 1980's, and by the age of 12, Maxwanette did her first poetry recital (in Brooklyn, NY at The New Muse), received awards & certificates for writing, and accompanied her Mother at recitals, readings, and functions, that included great griots, such as the legendary, Louis Reyes Rivera. Maxwanette states, "When I met Mr. Rivera, I noticed we were around the same height. I wondered about this man, as a child would. But when I heard him recite, I knew then, that I was Poetry & that Poetry was me." Considered the Underdog & homeless in Brooklyn, NY by the age of 11; as the struggle her family experienced, leaving the island of Jamaica. Trying to get their footing in America; mental illness and abusive experiences, wreaked havoc in her family, and in Maxwanettes life. How could she reach them? How could she change the narrative? She decided, that reaching people through words, were key. No matter the experiences; which changed her, in a myriad of ways, Maxwanette, never stopped writing.
